When it comes to striking the funny bone using a design tool, it definitely has to be the hilarious caricature artworks. A caricature can refer to a portrait that exaggerates or distorts the essence of a person or thing to create an easily identifiable visual likeness. Caricatures can be insulting or complimentary and can serve a political purpose or be drawn solely for entertainment. Caricatures of politicians are commonly used in editorial cartoons, while caricatures of movie stars are often found in entertainment magazines.

Alexey Shamrovsky, better known as Leo Hao is a Russian fantasy artist. His paintings are absolutely breathtaking. He has collaborated with bands and artists such as Blind Guardian, Saxon, Iced Earth, Primal Fear, Rage, Nocturnal Rites, Nazareth, Europe, Invictus, Iron Mask, Magic Kingdom, Manticora, Demons & Wizards, Revoltons and Guardians of time to name a few. Its my absolute pleasure and an honor to feature him in this article. His works range from fantasy metal art to neo-surrealism with a unique blend of reality. As we have seen in the previous articles, most of the artists were able to bedazzle us with their awesome photo manipulations. But, what if an artist could produce breath taking results without manipulations. As anyone who watched the opening ceremony of the recent Beijing Olympics will attest, China has been enjoying a burgeoning of the performing arts in recent years. One of the most striking artists to emerge from this thriving scene is Li Wei, who has become renowned for his arresting and seemingly gravity-defying photographic work. Strangely enough, his works are not photo-shopped but are a result his awesome skills.

After dropping out of art school and dabbling in oil painting, Li decided to focus on action art because, as he puts it, only it “offers a chance to experience an action’s message through one’s own body.” Li threw himself (literally) into this medium of expression, staging stunts in which he captures on film exhilarating moments of apparently extreme danger.

Li uses a mixture of props, wires, cleverly positioned cameras and good old fashioned acrobatics to achieve the astounding effects in his photographs. However, quite aside from the immediate ‘Wow!’ factor, his art also makes some penetrating statements about the difficulties, particularly lack of security, of living in the modern age.

Li’s words : “There is a feeling of losing a grip on things, an uncertainty about the morrow. It’s a feeling of hanging in the air, of having nothing firm under the feet. And even if the family is my priority and thus a key part of my performances, I wonder: How much are we able to put up with?”

If you haven’t heard about the Mandelbrot fractals, you are missing one hell of a wonder which is simply unravelling. As I always quote, deep down in the design world, it is always about equations and numbers. As it happens, these fractals were just a 2 dimensional representation of magical designs until Daniel White and Paul Nylander constructed the 3D Mandelbulb.

The 3-D renderings were generated by applying an iterative algorithm to a sphere. The same calculation is applied over and over to the sphere’s points in three dimensions. In spirit, that’s similar to how the original 2-D Mandelbrot set generates its infinite and self-repeating complexity. Beneath this geeky stuff, there is a strange yet creative world of 3D abstraction.

The original Mandelbrot is an amazing object that has captured the public’s imagination for 30 years with its cascading patterns and hypnotically colourful detail. It’s known as a ‘fractal’ – a type of shape that yields (sometimes elaborate) detail forever, no matter how far you ‘zoom’ into it.

It’s found by following a relatively simple mathematical formula. But in the end, it’s still only 2D and flat – there’s no depth, shadows, perspective, or light sourcing. But, the results are breath-taking.

After seeing all the amazing photo manipulations by many talented artists from around the design globe, I wanted to post an article containing the best photo manipulation tutorials that have been written on the web. Typography has long been a vital part of promotional material and advertising. Designers often use typography to set a theme and mood in an advertisement; for example using bold, large text to convey a particular message to the reader. Type is often used to draw attention to a particular advertisement, combined with efficient use of color, shapes and images.

Typography is the art and technique of arranging type, type design, and modifying type glyphs. Type glyphs are created and modified using a variety of illustration techniques. The arrangement of type involves the selection of typefaces, point size, line length, line spacing, adjusting the spaces between groups of letters and adjusting the space between pairs of letters.

Today, typography in advertising often reflects a company’s brand. Fonts used in advertisements convey different messages to the reader, classical fonts are for a strong personality, while more modern fonts are for a cleaner, neutral look. Bold fonts are used for making statements and attracting attention.

Typography is always inspiring. Some designers take it to the next level by creating absolutely stunning works of art using typography which is quite memorable and will stand the test of times. In this article, i have shared over 35 awesome typography posters in advertising and design.

What do you usually do after squatting a fly, .. Throw it, .. Bury it? What if you could actually bring life back into those insects? Sounds absurd, huh! …  Simple, creative and artistically funny is what I would call this work of art by Swedish photographer Magnus Muhr. Although Magnus seems to have a very extensive portfolio, I just loved his humorous fly gallery. This particular genre of his works is very impressive and managed to catch my eye so much, that I couldn’t help but mention it in this article and share it to the world!

Move aside SONY, we designers have our own way to make our laptop screens transparent. Well, it is fun and awesome. In this article, I will show some really cool examples of desktop and laptop screens which seem to be “transparent” but it is just a clever manipulation of a photograph. It is a very skilled procedure to make it look exactly real. A little bit of adjustments in the lighting conditions and some contrast values is sure to get the transparent screen up and running. It is also a clever way to fool your friends
