Create a Flaming Nike Logo
We have seen several text effects and image manipulations over time. In this tutorial, I will be showing you how to create a promotional Ad for one of the biggest sports giant there is… NIKE. There are quite a good collection of artists aroud the globe who design exemplary posters and ads for these brands (Nike, Adidas, Puma etc.). The least we can do is seek inspiration from their work. Nike has always been a trend setter in the Sports world, manufacturing eye catching sports wear, not to mention the ads they use to promote their brand, has always been a motivational factor for us to buy their merchandise.
So, Let us create a promotional poster, not commercial though…. for Nike.
Open Photoshop and create a new document. Select 1920 x 1200 as resolution. After that select the background layer and Click on Apply Gradient Overlay (G , can be found along with the paint bucket tool). Use #150b06 and # 321c0f for the gradient colors, Radial for Style and apply the gradient as shown below.
Create a new layer and go to Filter>Render>Clouds. Make sure that the colors were black and white for the foreground an background.
Change the Blend Mode of the Clouds layer to Color Dodge.
Select the Eraser Tool (E). Use a regular brush. Change the Hardness to 0% and use a big size. Now erase some areas, just leave the center like the image below.
Search for the Nike(TM) logo. I found mine in Google Images. Download any one of them. Import it to Photoshop and meddle with it until u get a perfect fit and align it in the center of the document as shown below.
Double Click on the Nike Layer in the layers Palette and click on OUTER GLOW. Use #fffde2 for the color, Color Dodge for the Blend Mode, 80% opacity, 18% for the Spread and 18 pixels for the Size and apply 71% for Range. This will create a nice glowing logo.
Now, we need to add fiery sparks to give a look such that the log is blazing with radiance. You can use the following image for the sparks and you can download the image here
Cut an area of the image and paste it in your document. Rotate and resize it to fit with the symbol. After that change the Blend Mode to Screen.
Now go to Image>Adjustments>Curves and apply the following settings.
Now go to Image>Adjustments>Levels. Increase the black and the a bit of the white of the image by imitating the following settings. This is necessary to match the colors of the image with the background.
Now using the free Transform tool (CTRL + T), reduce the size of the streaks and make sure it small and fit enough to be appear realistic. (use the image shown below as reference)
Then go to Edit>Transform>Warp. Move the grid to make the streaks follow the symbol and give a little curve to imitate the presence of a wind.
The Transformed image must looking something like this:
Go to Image>Adjustments>Hue and Saturation. Increase the Saturation and the Hue. Reduce the Lightness.
Duplicate the sparks layer. Go to Edit>Transform>Flip Vertical. Then resize it and adjust the position like the image below.
Copy another part of the original sparks Photo and paste it in your document and put it on the head of the logo. Repeat the steps 8, 9, and 10.
Repeat again the Steps 8,9, and 10 to create a tail to the symbol, like the image above. Try to remove some of the cloud part in the cloud layer by erasing some part from the image above.
Now lets create some stars. Create a New layer and using the paint bucket tool, fill the layer with black. Make sure you have black and white for the background and foreground colors (Press D to get the colours to default).
Then go to Filter>Noise>Add Noise. Use Gaussian for, 15% Amout, and Monochromatic. Then change the layer’s Blend Mode to Screen and go to Image>Adjustments>Levels. Increase the black and white levels untill you get nice stars. Then just repeat the same steps again in this same layer but with different levels. Observe the varation in size of the stars below. It is all about how you meddle with the Levels.
The flaming logo is now complete. Now, you can add a silhoutte of a football player (just like what I did) or any other image. Import the image into Photoshop and reduce the size of the image (using CTRL + T) and align it at the bottom of the page and apply a black colour Overlay. Also select the Brush Tool, use #d88c4d for the color and with a big brush, very soft create a light behind the player. Use 25% Opacity.
Now just add some texts and other small effects like the glow around the football. This sort of image manipulations is really cool because we can learn a lot from how to create some effects or famous brand styles such as Nike, Puma, Apple, Adidas and many others. Thanks to Abduzeedo for the inspiration and an awesome tutorial. Good Luck!
